I don’t swim in your church, please don’t pray in my loch!

St. Columba and Nessy duke it out.Apparently, ‘Nessy’ is evil. On August 22, 565 Saint Columba, a Scottish born monk and evangelist to the Picts happened on a group of Picts who were burying a man who had been killed by a terrible monster in the River Ness. The tributary that flows from the lake. Upon reaching the river, Columba was reported to save another swimmer by making the sign of the cross and declaring “You will go no further.” The beast was reported to have fled to the amazement of the Picts who instantly converted.

This incident was recorded by Adoman in the “Vita Columba” from the 8th century. Regardless of the truthfulness of this accounting it is the first recorded sighting of a monster in the Loch Ness region.
