Do 150 yr. Old Spirits Still Enhabit The School For The Deaf?

In 1843, on April 3rd,A bill was enacted creating the Michigan Asylum for Educating the Deaf and Dumb and Blind. It wasn’t, however until February of 1854 that the first student was enrolled, and in the spring of 1854 the school had 12 students, 11 of whom were deaf. In 1867 the name was changed from ‘Asylum,’ to ‘Institution.’ In 1887 the name of Michigan School for the Deaf was given. 1937 marked the beginning of the State Board of Education assuming the property.

There were strange occurrences reported almost immediately. From the 40’s until the present several night watchmen have quit their jobs there because they we’re “not willing to,” or “unable to,” work alone at night in the building. Maintenance and security staff, as well as visitors have all reported seeing a young boy in the yard, dressed in out-of-date clothing, playing at night, and sometimes during bad storms.

I have heard stories about this building all of my life, and I know it is considered to be a local paranormal ‘hot spot.’
